We are extremely lucky to be born in this day and age. Laptops certainly did not exist, which seems crazy considering you can pick up some of the best laptops under 300 dollars today.
I can’t even imagine what life would have been like a hundred years ago, where there was basically no technology.
Even the average family would spend more than $300 on monthly food expenses. That’s how cheap laptops have become. They’re also actually very good laptops as well. Surfing the web should be lightning fast and calling with family on Skype should be quite easy as well, because most laptops come with a built-in webcam.
What Are The Best Options?
This question isn’t very easy to answer. There are just so many choices available, so it really does depend on the features you’re looking for. The following are some of the laptops I would personally buy if I had $300, along with reasons as to why I recommend them.
HP Stream 13 – Best Windows OS Machine
The HP Stream is arguably one of the best laptops under 300 bucks out on the market today. It’s very lightweight and comes in two different colors. It has an Intel Celeron N2840 Processor, which is more than enough for basic tasks such as Word processing and browsing the web. 2GB of RAM is also included as well as a 32GB solid-state drive.
Those are some impressive specifications for a $269 laptop. The solid-state drive is a little on the low side but should make the laptop very quick and snappy. With cloud services such as Dropbox and Google Drive readily available, I think 32GB should be enough for most people.
The 13.3-inch screen looks to be of a good quality and is nice to have, because most manufacturers normally include an 11-inch screen at this low price.
If you want to save as much money as possible, it might be worth taking a look at the lower end version of the HP Stream. The 11″ version costs around $200 and has a 16GB SSD as well as 2GB RAM. It’s still a good option if you just want to browse the web and don’t mind the smaller screen size.
In my opinion, it really is the best laptop for under $300 and it seems most review websites seem to agree with me.
Samsung Chromebook 2 – One of the Top Laptops under 300 Bucks
I really like Samsung as a company. I think they make some very good products and when they released the Galaxy S2 Android smartphone, I was incredibly impressed. Similarly, they have released an excellent cheap Chromebook as well.
For those of you who don’t know what a Chromebook is, it’s basically a laptop, which uses Google’s Chrome operating system. Yes, that means there is no Windows operating system. This does have some negatives of course. For example, you can’t install most normal applications such as Photoshop or even Skype. Chrome OS is basically a cloud-based OS and is very light.
If all you’re planning to do is surf the web, Chrome OS may just be perfect for you. It’s lightning fast and you never need an anti-virus software. Boot up times are less than 10 seconds and comparable to Apple’s very expensive Macbooks. If you compare the speed to Windows laptops within this price range, you will notice that Chromebooks are much faster. This is due to Chrome OS being very light and cloud-based. Perhaps, the most impressive aspect of the Samsung Chromebook 2 is its monster 8.5 hours battery life.
For those who travel often, this is very much needed and something you don’t often see in Windows-based laptops. It’s also got 4GB RAM and a 16GB SSD, along with a beautiful 1080p Full HD display. That’s a very impressive piece of kit for $300. You can also get the cheaper 11.6-inch version. However, I feel it’s worth spending a bit more as you get more RAM and a better display. Obviously, that’s up to you, but it’s what I would personally recommend.
For some reason, people find it difficult to buy good cheap laptops. As I have shown above, it’s actually very easy to find laptops under 300 bucks, which have amazing specifications. In my opinion, the HP Stream and Samsung Chromebook 2 provide the most value for money. All you need to do is decide whether you want a Windows machine or a Chromebook.
